The BMW E38 Alpina B12 was the top of the line custom BMW 7 Series made by Alpina. The BMWs were taken off the production floor during assembly mid-production, customized by Alpina, and then redelivered back to BMW for final production.
These cars are quite special. Seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher is an owner of an Alpina B12 6.0. BMW only made 94 Alpina B12 6.0s and 7 RHD Alpina B12s -- 6 in the UK and 1 in Japan, all with short wheelbase. The rest of the LHD Alpina B12s 6.0 vehicles are a combination of long (750iL) and short wheelbase (750i).
Based on the BMW 750i and 750iL, the Alpina B12 6.0 was made from 1999 - July 2001 and has 316 HP with 443 lb·ft torque. In contrast to the cars they are based on, these models are not electronically limited to a top speed, but reach top speeds of more than 291 km/h (181 mph).... Ask me how I know.
